What People Are Saying
Barbara R.
Daughter of a resident · Winnipeg, MB
"My mother has been at Timbervale since last autumn and the change has been noticeable. She was eating irregularly at home and spending most of her time alone. Now she talks about dinner like it's the highlight of her day — which, honestly, says everything."

Walter P.
Resident · from Selkirk, MB
"I was worried it would feel like I'd given something up. Turns out I've gained more than I lost. The garden program alone — I didn't expect to care so much about it. They gave me a raised bed of my own and now I'm in it every morning."

Linda C.
Son of a resident · Winnipeg, MB
"What I appreciate most is that Margaret and the team actually communicate. If something comes up, I hear about it — not three days later, not in vague language. My father's personal liaison is someone I can call directly, and that matters a lot when you live far from a parent."

Gloria M.
Resident · formerly of East Kildonan
"I want people to know that this isn't a sterile place. My room has my photographs, my lamp, my quilt from home. The bread smells like my grandmother's kitchen. I didn't think I'd find somewhere like this."

Thomas K.
Son of a former resident · Thompson, MB
"My father was with Timbervale for his last two years and I'm grateful every day for the decision we made. The staff knew him — actually knew him, what he liked, what frustrated him. That kind of attention is hard to find anywhere."
January 2026
Sandra V.
Resident · from St. Vital, Winnipeg
"The winter program surprised me. I thought it would just stop when it got cold, but Amara had us growing herbs on the windowsills and making bird feeders for the yard. February is actually something I look forward to now."

A Closer Look at Real Experiences
From Isolated to Involved — Margaret's Story
The Situation
Margaret, 81, was living independently after her husband passed. Her daughter noticed she was skipping meals regularly and had stopped joining friends for activities she'd previously loved.
What Changed
She moved into the Comprehensive Arrangement. Within three weeks, she was joining mealtimes, taking part in the Garden Program in spring, and had resumed reading — with the quiet reading room becoming her afternoon routine.
Six Months Later
Her daughter describes her as "the most settled she's been in years." She has a named staff liaison who keeps the family updated, and her appetite has been consistent. She tends a small herb plot of her own.
"She actually called me to tell me about a robin that built a nest in the courtyard. That was the moment I knew we'd made the right call."

Staying Connected to Nature — Harold's Story
The Situation
Harold, 76, had worked as a market gardener his whole life. After a knee injury limited his mobility, he felt cut off from the outdoor work that had always given his days structure and meaning.
What Changed
He joined the Garden & Nature Connection Program in spring. The raised beds meant he could tend plants at a comfortable height. He became the informal advisor to other residents on vegetable varieties and planting timing.
One Year Later
Harold still considers the garden "his territory." He photographs the progress of the raised beds each season. He says Timbervale felt like a compromise at first and "ended up being something I didn't know I needed."
"I've got my own plot and a role here. That's more than I had at home, toward the end."
